An electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette, is a battery-powered device that heats a flavoured liquid into vapour instead of burning tobacco. In Dubai most people simply call it a “vape”. This guide explains the main types of electronic cigarette sold in the UAE, what they cost, how to choose one and the rules that apply, using the range and prices at Vape Marina.

How an electronic cigarette works
Every e-cigarette has the same three parts: a battery, a coil (the heating element) and e-liquid. When you draw on the mouthpiece, or press a button on some devices, the battery heats the coil and the coil turns the e-liquid into vapour. E-liquid is usually made of propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavouring and, in most products, nicotine.
Modern devices add features such as mesh coils for steadier flavour, screens that show battery and e-liquid levels, and power modes. Many disposables have a normal mode and a stronger “Boost”, “Pulse” or “Turbo” mode that uses more e-liquid per puff.
Disposable e-cigarettes
Disposables are the most popular electronic cigarettes in Dubai, and the biggest part of our range (119 in stock). Pod kits and refillable devices
A pod kit is a small rechargeable device that uses pods. Refillable pod kits, such as the Uwell Caliburn G4 (AED 97), cost more at the start, but you then only buy e-liquid and new pods or coils. E-liquids and nicotine strength
Pod kits are filled with bottled e-liquid. Nicotine salt e-liquids, such as Nasty Salt (AED 31), come in higher strengths and suit small pod kits. Freebase e-liquids usually come in low strengths in larger bottles for bigger tank devices. Electronic cigarette rules in the UAE
Electronic cigarettes have been legal to sell in the UAE since April 2019, when the UAE standard UAE.S 5030 came into force. It covers e-cigarettes, electronic shisha and their liquids, including technical specifications, ingredients, packaging and labelling. Since 1 January 2020, a 100% excise tax applies to electronic smoking devices and the liquids used in them (Cabinet Decision No. 52 of 2019), which is part of why vape prices in the UAE are higher than in some other countries.
